Jacob is the father of the 12 tribes of Israel while his twin brother, Esau, became known as Edom which means red and thereby sin. Jacob's name was changed by God to Israel. Ephraim, descendant of Jacob, is often used in the Bible to refer to the House of Israel made up of ten tribes.  The remaining two tribes were the House of Judah and in 2 Kings 16:6 came to be called Jews. The Edomites later became Idumeans to the Greeks and is also often called Mount Seir or just Seir.  All of the book of Obadiah is about what will come of the Edomite Jews in Jerusalem.

In Ezekiel 38, the prophet, prophesied that Gog/Agag would rule Rosh/Russia, Meshach/Moscow and Rubal/Tobolsk and Magog, the land area of eastern Europe. This is a journey of thousands of miles and thousands of years. This leads us to the trail from the deserts to Palestine and Russia.

In the Jewish encyclopedia, 1925 edition volume 5, page 41 it states: "Edom is in Jewry". This came about in 1926BC when the Maccabean Jew leader conquered Edom. In the "Antiquities of the Jews" we learn that the Maccabean leader,
Hyrcanus, allowed the remainder of Edomites to remain with the Jews if the men were circumcised and the Edomites
